Whether you are into design, technology, music, fashion, or cooking, we take talented individuals like you and help them turn their imagination, excitement, and creative energy into something awesome.

At this point, you may either pay the $50.00 non-housing or $100 housing (non-refundable) deposit to secure your spot or pay your full tuition. You’ll be asked to select the workshop of your choice and note if you would if you would like workshop housing or not. You’ll have the chance to experience firsthand what it’s like to pursue your passion and apply your talent here. Meet other creative minds and take a week to discover what a creative education could be like.

The Summer Studio Experience

If you're a high school sophomore, junior, or senior (graduating 2012), Summer Studio is the perfect way to find out if you are cut out for a creative higher education. This summer, bring us your energy and passion so we can help you discover how you can Create Tomorrow.

Meals:

Meals are included in the cost of registration for all students.

Housing:

Students attending Summer Studio who require housing will be staying at Duquesne University, a 20-minute walk from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh.

Additional Activities

Nightly activities offer students a chance to see much of what The Art Institute of Pittsburgh has to offer!

Student Showcase

The final presentation and student showcase will be held at 3:00 PM on the last day of the workshop. Friends and family are encouraged to attend.

Cost & Housing Information

Tuition without housing: $300 ($50 non-refundable deposit included)
Tuition with housing: $600 ($100 non-refundable deposit included)

You may register by paying the deposit fee of $50, if you do not require housing, or $100, if you do require housing during Summer Studio. Registration is due June 18, 2012, with your balance due by July 2, 2012.

Transportation to and from the airport is not included.

Refund Policy

The $50.00 workshop or $100.00 housing deposits are non-refundable. Tuition and housing fees are fully refundable until Monday, July 9, 2012. After this date, all fees are non-refundable regardless of early cancellation or departure from the workshops.

  • Graphic Design/Digital Design/Advertising
  • Your ideas can go anywhere. Gain a fundamental understanding of the software and techniques used by designers all over the world to create the graphics, brands, and imagery we recognize and interact with daily. This workshop will introduce you to a world that often goes unrecognized — but never unnoticed.

  • Entertainment Design/Industrial Design
  • From furniture, to cellphones and bikes, industrial designers literally create the world around us. Movie sets, special effects makeup, props, and masks are all created by entertainment designers. These workshops will let you take a walk in their shoes and see how your ideas can be brought to life.

  • Interior Design/Kitchen & Bath Design
  • Interior Design is all about enriching the lives of others by creating environments where form and function merge. This workshop will teach you the elements of design, including color and space planning, with a special emphasis on furniture, materials, and textiles.

  • Digital Filmmaking & Video Production
  • Discover the world of digital video production through the lens of actual filmmakers. Our faculty will guide you through pre-production planning, execution, and the post process of editing, special effects, and mastering. You’ll leave this fast-paced workshop with an understanding of how ideas transform into the films you know and love.

  • Game Art & Design
  • Bring your talents, drive, and inspiration and see how it fits in the multi-billion-dollar world of gaming. Working with the same tools the pros use, try your hand at rendering 3D environments and the characters that will inhabit them. This workshop will leave you with a taste of the possibility of a world just waiting for you to create it.

  • Media Arts & Animation
  • The Summer Studio workshop in Media Arts & Animation provides students with an important foundation in drawing skills, color theory, design concepts, audio/video techniques, and basic computer applications. From this foundation, students will develop skills in various aspects of computer graphics and animation.

  • Photography
  • In this workshop, students will have the opportunity to work with cameras and software to photograph and edit images. They will also participate in location and studio shoots.

  • Visual Effects & Motion Graphics
  • See if you’ve got what it takes to make tomorrow come to life. Use the same professional-grade tools our students use and explore a world of creative possibility. If you can see it in your mind and bring that thought to the screen, then you can make it move. Learn techniques for drawing with an eye toward the challenges unique to animation, and you’ll leave this workshop better prepared to conquer those challenges and make your vision come to life.

  • Web Design & Interactive Media/Web Design
  • This workshop is designed to give you an understanding of just how unique designing interactive web experiences can be. You’ll be introduced to the same tools the pros use while combining an aesthetic eye with the ever-expanding power of the web. This workshop is designed to provide you with a greater knowledge of how your ideas can come to life and what it takes to bring them there.

  • Fashion Design/Fashion & Retail Management
  • Gain a deeper understanding of the world of fashion and sharpen your own design skills in this exciting, collaborative workshop. You’ll have an opportunity to develop your eye with lessons in color theory and pattern selection that will change the way you look at trends. This workshop will also introduce you to the fundamentals of creating and maintaining effective consumer environments. Supply chain management, human resources, display presentation, and effective pricing models will all be covered in this introduction to the high-pressure, challenging world of retail management.

  • Culinary Arts/Hotel & Restaurant Management/Baking & Pastry
  • Get in the kitchen and see if you’ve got what it takes. This workshop will introduce you to basic knife skills, ingredient selection, and regional cooking styles. You’ll learn to execute several dishes and develop your own personal interpretation of some classics. Best of all, you’ll meet like-minded peers and see if the kitchen might be in your future.

All workshops conducted at The Art Institutes schools are non-credit bearing and do not transfer into any of the programs offered at The Art Institutes.
